Commercial Photography Invoice Template

The commercial photography invoice is for the professional process of capturing, editing, and providing the finished product of an image to be used for commercial purposes. This is common with online retail stores that desire unique product images although this service can be for any commercial need. If this service was produced in the photographer’s studio and special lighting and/or equipment was required, such add-ons and extras may be reflected in the invoice.

What is Commercial Photography?

Photography is powerful in the way it can sell and advertise a product, person, or thing. Most forms of photography are used for commercial use. The only type of photography not used for commercial purposes are photos taken for personal use, such as selfies and family photos. However, even selfies can be considered commercial photography if they are seen by a wide audience (typically on social media). Almost all types of businesses need some form of commercial photography in order to present themselves or a product to have a professional look.

Commercial Photography Jobs

To be a commercial photographer and find a job, that person needs to have a very good understanding of their equipment (camera, lighting, lenses, locations/backgrounds) and a photo editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop. Knowing the process of editing photos is equally as important as taking them. Most commercial photography jobs require the candidate to possess the ability to do the following:

  • Leading a team
  • Delivering digital photography and video
  • Location scouting
  • Model casting
  • Budgeting a shoot and signing contracts

Commercial Photography Contract & Pricing

A contract between a photographer and their client should always be signed prior to shooting photos. A contract protects a photographer legally and from not being paid. A contract serves a dual purpose as it sets out the working relationship that both parties can adhere to and understand. A contract will set into place 3 major necessities that are needed: job description/project road map, photography licensing rights, and the cost (and penalties if either party defaults).
